Top comic movies to watch in 2016

Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad movie

I’m very excited about the upcoming comic movie releases this year. The superhero genre is exploding with probably the most releases in a year for Marvel and DC Comics. So here is a top list of movies been released in 2016!

It’s great to see some diversity in comics coming to movies. Superman, Batman, Spiderman and a few others have all ruled the movies for decades and so its great to see more making it to the big screen.

Anyways lets start off the list.

Suicide Squad

From DC Comics and written by David Ayer with a full feature cast.

  • Will Smith (Do i need to list his filmography?)
  • Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club)
  • Margot Robbie (Focus, The Wolf of Wall Street)
  • Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop 2014, Safe House)
  • Vola Davis (The Help)
  • Jai Courtney¬†(A Good day to Die Hard, Terminator Genisys)
  • and more..

From what we know from trailers, Task Force X is a secret team of supervillans who have been imprisoned by the US government. They are released to form the team and undertake missions for the government in exchange for amnesty.

I’m particularly looking forward to Jered Leto’s performance as the Joker and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. See the trailer for a preview.

Deadpool

First of i feel i have to say that whoever was behind the marketing of this film went overboard, the films promotion is literally everywhere so i do hope this lives up to the hype!

Marvel Comics Deadpool / Wade Wilson played by Ryan Reynolds is a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary. He is subjected to an experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers. With his abilities and comical humour his mission is to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his live.

I think this movie will certainly bring some new fans to Marvel as its not their usual superhero story. What do you think?

Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice

So Ben Affleck as Batman.. can he take over from Christian Bale in The Dark Knight? and carry on what essentially rebooted the comic movie money in the studios?

It’s Henry Cavill as Superman vs Batman. Fearing the actions of Superman are left unchecked Batman takes on Superman, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. With them fighting a new threat Doomsday created by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). It’s up to Superman and Batman to set aside their differences along with Wonder Woman (Yes she is back played by Gal Gadot) to stop Lex and Doomsday from destroying Metropolis.

Also in the film looking at the cast is Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and rumoured to also feature The Flash.

Excited?

X-men apocalypse

Directed by Bryan Singer, x-men is back and with its growing famous cast.

In this the vert first mutant emerges “Apocalypse” and the X-Men must unite once again to defeat his extinction level plan.

I hope that this story grows and we get more story on the characters it always seems like to just get the short story on them all. I understand you can only tell so much story on each character in the usual 2 hours but i feel we don’t get enough to feel enough for the characters and it just becomes another easy watch.. i want to be blown away and the X-Men could easy offer that to its audience..

 Captain America: Civil War

The Captain is back! In this follow up in the franchise he turns his back on the government to protect his friend Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier. Iron Man takes them both on in the trailer but what will the outcome be?

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch

After his career is destroyed, a brilliant surgeon gets a new lease of life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world again evil.

I’m unsure about this. i don’t know why, i think Benedict will pull this movie up with his usual brilliant performance but sorcery usually isn’t my thing so will be interesting to see the outcome.

The film also starts Rachael McAdams and Tilda Swinton, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor so there are some good names on board for this movie to give the script a chance. Fingers crossed though!

Summary

We are in store for a great year of comic movies. I’m very much looking forward to Suicide Squad and Batman. Which ones will you be watching on the big screen? give your thoughts and comments below.
